Chapters 58 & 59
GH2005.58 About Last Night... Evan awakes in Emily's arms and smiles down at her sleeping peacefully.
He replays the night's activities over in his mind again and chokes up.
She'd been so understanding about Ian last night, but what about today?
With a full night to think about it, will she change her mind? Will she
leave him for someone who has fewer responsibilities? Questions plague
him as possible scenarios dance around in his head.
Keeping her eyes closed, Emily feels the change in his breathing. She
thinks about last night and smiles to herself. He trusts me... he trusts
me enough to share all his secrets. How could he ever think I'd walk out
on him? How many times had Lucky or Nikolas broken her heart? With their
secrets, or careless disregard for her feelings. Not that she'd ever
hate them, she adores them; they are her best friends. Evan, was
different. He needs her as much as she needs him. She feels his arms
squeeze around her and smiles that her fake sleep has been discovered.
"You caught me..."
Kissing her gently on the cheek he whispers in her ear. "Playing possum,
babe? I hope you aren't trying to avoid talking to me."
"You're too much. I was just basking in the afterglow, honey." She
reaches back and strokes his cheek gently. "I've never felt more loved
than I do right this minute. How can I ever thank you for helping to
save Lucky and Cassidy?"
"Thank me? Baby, the look you had when you heard them yell back to us
was more thanks than I'll ever need. I'd cross mountains for you. Don't
ever doubt that."
A tear slips across her face as she closes her eyes and whispers. "Wake
me up if this is a dream. I can't take finding out that this is just a
fantasy."
"Baby, it's no dream, though I've been wondering the same thing. You are
truly amazing. I honestly thought that I'd lose you after telling you
about Ian. I looked into your eyes and expected to see, anger,
distrust... anything but the look of complete adoration you gave me." He
props himself up on his shoulder and looks deeply into her eyes. "I love
you, and I'm just trying to figure out what I did to deserve having you
love me back."
Choking back a sob, she traces his face with her hand, taking in every
detail. "What happened to you, Ev? What has made you so scared of being
loved?"
"I don't honestly know, sweetheart, but I am really thankful to you for
making that fear obsolete." he kisses her hand gently. "I'm going to
tell Dad about Ian when we get back...Em? What's wrong?"
She smiles at him sadly. "Going home without Richard again. How is Lucky
going to tell his family that it was another dead end?? How much more
can they take when it comes to Richard?"
In the other room, Cassidy sadly watches Lucky talk into the phone. His
voice cracks as he fights the emotions that weigh on his shoulders.
"Nikolas, I don't know how to tell them, man. I thought this was IT. How
can I break their hearts again??"
Nikolas rubs his temple as he sits at his desk. Tears slip down his
cheeks as he listens to his brother's emotional plea. "I'll tell them,
Lucky. Just get back here safely. Cassidy should call Kevin and Mike;
they've been pretty worried. Monica, Alan, Felicia and Mac are pretty
concerned as well."
"No, I'll tell them, man. I'm the one who followed the lead. I can do
it." He closes his eyes as he leans against the headboard of the bed.
"Lucky, You've been the one to inform them the last two times. Enough is
enough, this is not your emotional burden to carry alone. We all grieve
for Richard, we all share the responsibility. Honestly, I'm just
thankful I didn't lose my other brother last night. Return home safely,
and allow me to shoulder this one." He runs a finger over the wedding
picture of Laura and Stefan as he listens to Lucky sigh.
"Okay, you win. We'll be home shortly. I'll be glad to see your ugly mug
again too. Give Mom my love." He hangs up the phone and lets out a gut
wrenching sigh. Looking up at Cassidy's tear stained face he opens his
arms to her. "Come here, babe."
"I'm so sorry, Lucky. I know that was hard on you." She rests in his
arms as she feels his arms tighten around her waist.
"Nikolas was easier to tell than Mom or Stefan. He's going to pass the
information on to them. Man, I feel for him. There is no words to
describe how much this hurts them." Stroking her hair gently he smiles
at her. "You were amazing last night, babe."
Cassidy smiles at the memory. "Mmmmmm, I thought it was wonderful, too.
You were very tender and sweet... and passionate. I needed that after
what we went through."
He interrupts her with a kiss. "I needed it too, Cass. I like it that we
can be friends and lovers. With no pressure or expectations of a serious
relationship."
Cassidy puts her arms around his neck. "I like how you think, Lucky. I
think we should grab our rescuers and treat them to the best breakfast
they've ever tasted." She grabs him by the arm and leads him towards the
bathroom. "But I think that shower is calling our names. No coin
flipping this time."
He grins as he follows her into the bathroom. "What coin?"
Mac pounces on the phone and sticks his tongue out at Felicia.
"Scorpio."
"Scorpio here too." Evan says with a laugh.
"EVAN! Where are you? Are you okay? Did you find Lucky and Cassidy? What
about Richard? Is Emily with you?"
Evan begins to laugh so hard he can't answer. Calming himself he speaks.
"In a hotel in Mexico, Yes, yes, it was a false lead, and Yes, she is.
She's talking to her folks on her cell phone. Glad you care."
Mac lets out a sigh of relief. "Of course I care! You bolted out of town
without a word to anyone. I had to hear about it from the Cassadines. I
didn't hear from you last night. A phone call wouldn't have hurt ya you
know?"
Evan rolls his eyes at the scolding. "Making up for lost time, Dad?"
"What do you mean?"
"You're scolding me like I'm a runaway teenager. It's okay though, I can
handle it. Em and I will be on our way back this afternoon. I need to
talk to you then if you have the time."
Mac beams happily. "Of course I have the time. Will you be coming here?
Or do you want to meet somewhere privately?"
"No, I'll come to the house. Felicia needs to hear this too. I'm not
being cryptic, honest. I just need to discuss some things with you. Hey,
Lucky and Cassidy are at the door, I need to jet. Give Felicia and the
girls hugs from me. Bye Dad." Evan hangs up the phone and walks to the
door. Opening it, he grins at Lucky and Cassidy. "Come on in, Em is
almost off the phone, and we're packed."
Felicia watches Mac with curiosity as he takes a seat next to her on the
couch. "Is something wrong? Is Evan okay?"
"Do I scold? I don't scold, do I?" He turns to her for an answer.
She smirks at him. "You scold?? Mac "I mean Business" Scorpio scold??
Why I never heard something so utterly ridiculous in my entire life. Who
started that awful rumor?"
He swats her leg playfully. "You think you're soooo amusing, don't you?"
"Yes, and so do you. Evan did like the twenty questions; I take it?"
"I think he found it amusing, honestly. Not to be presumptuous, I'd even
venture to say-- he liked it. He wants to talk to us when he gets back
tonight. He sounded serious." He watches with amusement as the motherly
curiosity gets the best of his wife.
"You didn't get more information out of him?? You're a private
investigator, you should have been able to get more info than... 'He
wants to talk to us, he sounded serious'... wait, you don't think he
and Emily are getting married; do you?"
Horror crosses over Mac's face. "Marriage? Doesn't he know what that'll
do to him?" He grunts as she punches him in the gut. "Ow! I'm teasing.
No, I doubt it's marriage. They're still in that googly-eyed stage, not
the marriage stage."
Kevin hangs up the phone and turns to Lucy. "Cassidy is fine. She'll be
home tonight."
Lucy takes another bite of ice cream. "You didn't tell her you're
leaving tomorrow?"
"No, I decided to wait until I hear what happened in Mexico. She said it
got a little touchy out there, so in Cassidy terms, a little touchy
means it got pretty bad. I don't think I can just up and leave if she's
not okay. Besides-- you're pregnant and you need me. This book tour is a
bad idea."
"OH PULEEZ! Cassidy is a big girl, and we both know she can take care of
herself. I'm sure she is just fine. Besides if she wasn't she wouldn't
let us know anything. I talked to Scott, and he agreed to let Serena
stay here with me. I have Lucky, Stefan, Cassidy, Scott, Serena,
and let's not forget Mac and Felicia if I need any help. I want you to
go promote your psychotic book, and be happy." She takes another bite
signifying she is done lecturing.
Kevin laughs. "When did you become so bossy? Never mind... hormones.
Okay, I'll go, but Luce, promise me you'll call if you need me."
She giggles as he begins to massage her feet. "Oh pooh, nothing is going
to happen. I'll call you because I miss you though. Ohh, that feels
good. Perhaps you shouldn't leave..."
Nikolas knocks on the bedroom door and enters at their request. Walking
to the bed where they are reading he clears his throat. "Lucky called.."
Laura looks into his eyes and lets out a choked response. "It was a
false lead?" Her eyes overfill with tears, she covers her eyes with her
hands and begins to sob. Stefan wraps his arms around his wife and looks
up at Nikolas with a look of despair. "Lucky and Cassidy?"
Nikolas swallows a sob and answers. "Are on their way home with Emily
and Evan. I am sorry..."
His voice cuts off as he watches Stefan bury his face his mother's hair
as they rock quietly together. He leaves the room and descends down the
stairs. Reaching the liquor cabinet he pours a large glass of Port
and downs it. "We will find you, Richard. I swear to you we will find
you."
GH2005.59 Play Ball Gina watches with amusement as Scott screams out from the cold water
splashing over him. He turns to Lu and Serena and yells. "What are you
doing?!"
Serena winks at him cockily. "Good Luck, Frank said if we drenched you
now it'd give us good luck and we'd win the game."
The sound of Frank and Joe Scanlons' laughter echoes over the rest of
the crowd. Scott speaks into his megaphone. "You're going down,
Scanlon!"
Joe pats Frank on the back. "He means you. I'm just an innocent
bystander."
"Oh yeah, really innocent. I saw you slip Serena that twenty. I gave
them the line about good luck." Frank smiles at his younger brother.
"I'm glad my nephew, Scotty, agreed to join the team, but bro, what is
up with the hair cut?!"
Looking at his son, with a spiked short haircut, Joe sighs. "He spends
way too much time with his grandfather. Okay, It's my turn to sit on
Serena's side, so I'll leave Karen to heckle you with Julie and Ma."
"Thanks bro. See ya after we win this game." He pats Joe on the shoulder
and walks out to the field. "Okay team, we've got a big game today!
Jack's meatmarket boys are good, but we're better..."
Joe takes a seat next to Gina and sneaks some of her popcorn. She lets
out a protest, shoving his hand away playfully. "Hey, get your own."
He flashes her a grin. "I thought you didn't hate me anymore?"
"I stopped hating you a few years back, but a woman's popcorn is a
private, sacred thing. I'm glad you and Karen decided to move back home.
Scott seems so happy." She watches as a damp Scott calls out orders to
his team.
"You seem pretty interested in my father-in-law. You holding out on me,
Gina?" He gives her his hurt puppy expression and she tosses some
popcorn at him.
"You're pathetic, Dr. Scanlon. That pathetic look may work on the
nurses, but Dr. Harmon warned me about you."
"Tsk, tsk! Matt... revealing my secrets, where is he anyway?" He looks
around the stands for his friend.
Gina laughs as Lu slides into first base. "Lucky never should have
taught her that. Matt had to work. We traded shifts so I could watch Lu
and Staci play."
Joe looks over to the field where Staci plays. "How come you aren't over
there?"
Turning her gaze to Katherine and Nikolas cuddling on the bleachers, she
lets out a groan. "Let's just say my ex husband and I came to an
agreement. We'll switch off after four innings."
Karen rests her hand on Julie's stomach. "Wow, Jules, this one is a
kicker."
"Tell me about it. I've felt more kicks with this one than I ever did
with Shani. And the weight gain.... Don't roll your eyes at me! Karen, I
am a heifer." She lets out a moo which sets Karen into giggles.
Mary scoffs at her daughter-in-law good naturedly. "You are radiant,
Julie. You both carry pregnancy well. Oh, Scotty is up. GIVE 'EM HELL,
SCANLON!!"
Stone looks up in the stands at the woman hollering. He looks at Scotty.
"Your grandma is funny."
Scotty shrugs his shoulders. "They're a wild bunch. My Grandpa is the
funny one."
AR joins them. "You're up, Scotty; hey where did you get the hair cut?"
Scotty walks toward the home plate. "Pepe gave it to me."
AR and Stone look at each other in confusion and speak in unison.
"Pepe?"
Katherine squeezes Nikolas' hand. "Your parents aren't here. Did
something happen?"
Nikolas nods his head. "The lead on Richard proved to be false. Lucky,
Cassidy, Evan and Emily returned home late last night."
Katherine kisses his cheek. "I am sorry about Richard. Lucky and Cassidy
seem pretty close."
Nikolas turns his head toward their direction. "They do; don't they?"
Mac watches Georgie swing the bat and stands up and cheers. "WAY TO GO,
GEORGIE!!" He turns to Evan excitedly. "Did you see that?"
Evan laughs at his father's excitement. "You really get into baseball;
don't you?"
"You bet! Tell you what, when we get back from Florida with Ian, we'll
start him out on one of those Fisher Price baseball sets."
Thinking back to the conversation that took place the night before, Evan
smiles....
Looking at his parents, he takes a deep breath. "I can tell you guys are
worried, and I'm sorry I was kinda vague on the phone, but I wanted to
tell you this in person."
Felicia smiles at him reassuringly. "You've got the floor, Evan."
"I haven't been completely honest with you. I know my mother didn't
mention this either, or you would've asked me about it."
Mac places a hand on his son's knee. "Are you sick? Is something wrong?"
Placing his hand on his fathers, he blurts out. "I'm fine, but I have a
son."
Silence fills the room as Felicia mouths the word "son" and Mac looks at
Evan in shock. "I wanted to tell you, but I couldn't find the right
time. I finally found my father, and he has this great wife and these
great little sisters for me to get to know, but I was afraid if you knew
I'd blew it with my own son you'd want nothing to do with me." Evan
looks at the floor in shame.
Felicia cups his chin in her hand and tilts his face to hers. "Where is
he?"
"With his Grandparents--Michelle's folks. He was only an infant when
Michelle died. I was a wreck. I couldn't respond to him, let alone take
care of him. Her parents asked me to allow them to take care of him
until I recovered. My mother agreed with them. So, I signed some
temporary papers and took off to roam any and every beach I could find.
I was basically a bum. I didn't care what happened to me. I got over it
after awhile and returned to see Ian, but he was flourishing with her
parents. They seemed to be so happy with him. I knew I couldn't provide
for him the security-- they could."
Mac places his other hand on Evan's shoulder and smiles at him. "You're
young, and experienced a great loss, no one can blame you for the
decisions you made. I'm happy that you feel confident telling us now.
I'd like to meet my grandson; is that possible?"
Choking back his tears of relief, Evan nods. "Her parents let me see him
whenever I want. Mom said that they were more than willing for you and
Felicia to meet Ian. We can go anytime you want."
Felicia sighs. "Grandma..who'd a thought? Well, I'm dying of curiosity.
I think we'll make this trip ASAP!"
"I agree, we'll work out the plans after the game tomorrow." Mac smiles
broadly. "Grandpa..I like it."
Feeling Felicia's hand on his shoulder, Evan is brought back to the here
and now. "Penny for your thoughts?"
Evan smiles at her as he holds Emily's hand. "No thoughts really. Just
happy."
Lucky and Cassidy watch with amusement as Lucy starts bellowing at the
ump that called Serena's home run out. "OUT?? ARE YOU BLIND?? WOULD YOU
LIKE SOME GLASSES??? OPEN YOUR EYES!!"
Scott is immediately in the ump's face. "She was safe!"
"OUT" The ump yells angrily.
Gina yells back. "SAFE"
"OUT" The ump glares at the crowd who start chanting "SAFE! SAFE! SAFE!
SAFE! SAFE! SAFE!" He looks At Scott who is smirking. "Get control of
the fans."
Throwing up his hands, Scott feigns looking baffled. "I coach the
players, not the parents."
The ump is furious and stalks off the field. Serena giggles and takes a
bow to the audience.
Scott tousles her hair as he leads her back to the dugout. "You're such
a ham."
Serena bats her eyes at him. "Wonder where I learned that from?"
