Chapters 32 and 33

Chapter 32 "New Beginnings End Tragic Endings.."
The party is hopping in the boat's main dining hall. The guests are
eating, drinking and dancing. Robin and Jason continue to look
blissfully happy and appear to only have eyes for each other. Carly
turns to Lucky and Brenda. "I used to hate her. Absolutely despised her,
'goody two shoes Robin'. Jason always looked at her like he's doing
right now and I was so jealous that I couldn't see straight. Now, I
still envy them, but I'm so happy for them. That's how it's supposed to
be you know. One day, I want to find the man who'll look at me that
way."
Brenda sighs. "I found him, and lost him. Never settle for someone who
doesn't hold your heart, you'll regret it later."
Carly shrugs. "I don't know. I thought Tony held my heart, but I'm not
going to be stupid next time. I'm marrying for security."
Lucky laughs. "I pity the guy!"
Carly slaps him on the arm. "You can't criticize. You know who holds
your heart and your stubborn pride allowed her to fall into another's
waiting arms."
Lucky looks over at the Quartermaine/Scorpio table enviously as he
watches Evan and Emily whisper and cuddle together. Evan feeds her a
bite of shrimp and she takes it seductively. Not wanting to watch any
longer Lucky turns to his two dates. "Okay, ladies, who wants to dance?"
A.J. interrupts. "You'll have to take Brenda; Carly owes me a dance."
Wordlessly he leads her to the dance floor and they begin to sway
together to the soft beat of the music.
Carly:"And how do I owe you this dance?"
A.J. smiles. "You've probably forgotten this, but years ago I saw this
pretty girl wearing a red wig sneaking out of my cousin's office. She
lost an earring and I returned it. You told me you owed me one. I'm
collecting."
Carly blushes at the memory. "I was such a ditz back then. I suppose I
owe you interest now."
A.J. smiles confidently. "Only a couple more dances, a couple more heart
to heart talks and I think we can call it even."
Gina watches her husband dance with Carly and feels her jealousy rise.
Scott looks at her with
concern. "Are you okay?"
Gina nods. "Just peachy. Sorry, that was uncalled for. I'm angry with
him and taking it out on you."
Scott winks at her. "I'm tough, I can take it. I feel silly being here
anyway. Lucy insisted I come. She thinks I'm disappearing into myself.
I'm glad you took me up on the date."
Gina laughs. "I'm glad you called. I thought I was going to be Lucky's
third date."
Scott looks over at Lucky dancing with Brenda. "He reminds me of his
father."
Gina looks at him curiously."Is that a bad thing?"
Scott shrugs his shoulders. "There was no love lost between Luke and me.
I don't hold Lucky accountable for that though. He's like his father in
so many ways it's eerie. Like Luke Spencer-- the next generation."
Gina nods. "He was devastated when Luke died. I was so lost in my grief
over losing Sonny, I honestly didn't think anyone could feel as badly
as I did. Then I took a hard look at Robin, Jason, Mike, Lucky, Laura
and Alexis. It woke me up. Made me realize no matter how low I felt
there was someone hurting even more."
Scott holds out his hand. "Let's give Lucky a run for his money. I can
still cut a rug with the best of them."
Gina giggles as he leads her to the dance floor. "Cut a rug?"
Scott sighs. "You're just a baby."
Lucky and Brenda dance seductively during the slow song. As the tempo
changes to an older song, Lucky starts to laugh when he hears All for
One's 'Skills' rocking through the boat. He takes Brenda's hand and
begins to dance like his father had so many years before. The guests
laugh and cheer them on as Lucky and Brenda begin to gyrate together.
Evan and Emily soon join in; with Lucky encouraging them, Jason and
Robin, and Ned and Lois are pulled on the dance floor as well.
Lucy looks over at Doc."You wanna dance?"
Stefan stifles a laugh at Kevin's expression. "To that? I'd prefer not
to make a fool of myself."
Laura looks over at Stefan. "Since you're grinning, perhaps you'd like
to dance?"
Stefan feigns shock. "I should think not. I am surprised Felicia and Mac
are out there."
Laura smiles as she watches them dance. "They are celebrating! Oh my!
Alan and Monica seem to be celebrating as well!"
Kevin:"He's quite agile."
Stefan:"She moves like a twenty year old."
Lucy:"They used to dance at the disco together."
Laura:"Did they? I thought it was Susan Moore and Alan in the disco."
Lucy:"Oh, maybe you're right. Silly me."
Kevin:"I didn't realize the disco was so important in Port Charles."
Laura:"OH it changed Port Charles history."
Stefan:"How is that? I mean... disco was just a phase, an American faze
at that."
Luce:"OH silly, you two are sooooo repressed. You both need to loosen up
a little."
Kevin:"I think she means us, Stefan. Perhaps we should dance."
Stefan looking deadly serious. "Not that I don't find you most
attractive and I'm sure you're a remarkable dancer, but sadly Kevin, I
prefer blonds."
The foursome erupts into laughter.
Lucky looks over at the table and shakes his head. "What could possibly
be so funny?"
Brenda whispers to him. "Let's say our goodbyes and leave. I'm tired and
want to pick Sonni up."
Lucky grins."I wonder how Nikky and the kids are doing?"
Wyndemere
Nikolas has handed out scones and milk to the eager children and looks
over at his two designated helpers, Lu and Georgie. "Any other ideas?"
Lu shrugs. "I'm all out. Georgie?"
Georgie smiles. "You could teach them Tai-chi."
Nikolas grins. "You're eager for another session? Very well, would you
all like to learn Tai-chi?"
The kids nod and Nikolas instructs them to stand up. "Lu, Georgie, help
them into position. Okay, this is like follow the leader, follow my
moves carefully."
Mrs. Lansbury watches with amusement from a side corridor as Nikolas
leads the children through a Tai-chi lesson.
Robin and Jason are opening gifts. They pick up a box marked to Jason
and Robin from Aunt Tracy.
Robin:"You want to open it?"
Jason:"Is it ticking?"
Ned laughs. "I already checked for that."
Jason opens the box and holds up two beautifully personalized motorcycle
helmets. Their names are etched in gold lettering over the black and red
helmets.
Robin:"WOW! I have to say it, I love it."
Jason looks amazed."Tracy actually bought us a decent gift with no
strings attached."
Ned fingers the little notes inside. "Oh... there's a catch."
Robin reads the note and becomes angry. "To help prevent further brain
damage."
Jason busts out laughing. "That was actually clever."
Monica hands them an envelope. "This is from me and your father."
Jason takes it and opens it. He reads over the deed and hands it to
Robin. "I can't accept this." Monica's face falls and Jason continues.
"It's not that I don't appreciate it. It's just too much."
Monica takes his hand."Please, take the gift."
Jason looks at Robin who nods tearfully. He turns to Monica and hugs
her."Thank you. We'll begin building our home on the boathouse property
ASAP."
Robin hugs Alan. "We hope to start a family soon. I know they'll love
having their grandparents so close by."
The guests are startled when they hear a loud bang outside. Jason looks
over at Joseph who is bellowing something into his cell phone. He looks
back at Jason. "False alarm, helicopter got to close and grazed a tree;
no one is hurt."
Jason looks furiously at Joseph. "Take care of the press now. I want
this over with."
Kevin turns to Lucy. "I think we might need to rethink our wedding
plans."
Stefan walks away from them and whispers something into Laura's ear.
"What do you think?"
Laura beams. "I'll start making plans tomorrow. It's a wonderful idea.
I'll have Felicia help me."
Stefan smiles. "Good, I'll inform them of the plans later. I think they
will approve."
Lucky and Brenda are at his club. He turns the light's down low and
flips on the music. They begin to kiss and dance. Brenda runs her
fingers over his back. "You've been so great to me since I've been back.
I really appreciate it."
Lucky kisses her deeply then smiles. "No thanks necessary. You're a
remarkable woman, Brenda Barrett."
Brenda:" GOD! Brenda Barrett, I haven't been called that in so very
long. I like the sound of it. Are you sure you want to go with me
tomorrow?"
Lucky smiles. "Escorting you to divorce Jerxy is the best thing I could
do tomorrow. I never liked him, and he never deserved you."
Brenda kisses his neck gently. "Make love to me, Lucky."
Lucky leads her to the back room and pulls her toward the couch. She
pulls back and smiles. "If it's all the same to you, I've had plenty of
couch sex in my lifetime. I'd rather not go there tonight."
Lucky looks at his desk and she shakes her head leading him back to the
bar. She hops up on the bar and pulls him to her. "Is this okay with you?"
Lucky begins to unbutton her shirt. "Better than okay, darlin'."
Robin has her back toward all the single women. She takes a deep breath
and tosses the bouquet. The women scramble for it, and Emily emerges the
victor. Alan, A.J., Ned and Jason look a little unhappy at the winner.
Jason looks back at Ned. "This seems silly."
Ned laughs. "It's a tradition. Okay... All you single men out
there...Time to catch the garter belt."
Jason bends down in front of Robin who is giggling as he takes the
garter in his teeth and begins to pull it down. The guests cheer him on,
and Mac looks embarrassed. Jason takes the garter and turns his back to
the crowd. He flings it back and Evan Scorpio catches it.
Mac turns to Felicia. "Could this get ANY more embarrassing?"
Felicia smiles coyly. "Well, he could strip for us again."
Emily takes a seat and Evan falls to his knees before her. With a
mischievous glint in his eye, he slips the garter on her leg..once it's
just about knee high, he takes it in his teeth and slips it up to her
thigh.
Ned looks at his uncle and cousins. "Kill him now?"
Alan shrugs. "WE could use more fertilizer in the rose garden."
Jason shakes his head. "She can handle herself. He's Robin's cousin. We
can't just kill him."
A.J. nods. "We could have a little chat with him."
They all look at each other and in unison. "Evan! Come over here."
A few hours later Brenda has put Sonni in bed and is relaxing in her
bedroom at the hotel. She turns on the TV and lays down sleepily
watching the news. A short while later she drifts off to sleep and a man
wearing a black ski mask enters from her bathroom.
Chapter 33: Deja Vu
Sonni stands by her mother's bed and calls to her again. "MOMMY!
MOMMY WAKE UP!" The little girl begins to cry as she shakes her
mother and receives no response. Sonni picks up the phone and dials the
number on the night stand.
Lucky Spencer sleepily answers the phone. "Spencer...who's calling me
before noon?" Lucky arises from the bed abruptly when he hears the
little girl crying. "Sonni? This is Lucky. What's the matter, darlin'?"
Sonni sobs."My-my mommy won't wake up! I keep yelling at her and she
won't wake up!"
A knot of fear forms in Lucky's stomach as he remembers when Lulu made
the same call to him about Aunt Ruby years before. He blinks hard and
forces himself to focus on the here and now. "I'm on my way Sonni. Go
into the livingroom and wait for me. Don't let anyone in but me okay?"
Sonni sniffles."Okay."
A blond man sits at his desk working on a document. He looks up at his
assistant. "Has Brender made it to the Dominican Republic?"
The young woman shakes her head. "No, Mr. Jacks. I canceled the tickets
at your request. How are you so certain she won't be making the trip?"
Jax smiles at her. "Trust me, I know my wife. She won't be on that plane
today or any day for that matter."
Lucky knocks on Brenda's hotel door loudly and Sonni answers it. He
picks up the sniffling little girl and gives her a hug. "It's okay,
baby, I'm going to go check on your momma. I want you to wait here
okay?"
She nods, and he walks toward the bedroom. Brenda lies on the bed
motionless; Lucky prays she's just in a deep sleep. He moves over to her
placing his finger on her neck. He draws back quickly at the touch of
the ice cold body. "Damn." He looks on the floor and sees an empty pill
bottle next to her hand. He picks the bottle up briefly examining it
then reaches for the phone. "I need Commissioner Garcia please."
A short while later Alex and a team of officers arrive to the scene.
Lucky is holding Sonni and trying to soothe her as she continues to ask
for her mommy.
Alex looks frustrated. "You picked this up?"
Lucky looks at the pill bottle Alex is shaking at him and nods. "Look, I
wanted to see what she took. I can't really discuss this right now. I
need to find someplace to take Sonni."
Ned and Lois enter the hotel room. Sonni rushes from Lucky into Lois'
waiting arms, and Ned looks around at the hotel room.
Ned:"Where's Brenda?"
Lucky shakes his head, and Lois gasps. She fights for control over her
emotions since she's holding Sonni. Ned wordlessly walks over to her and
takes Sonni gently. He squeezes Lois' hand and then looks over at Sonni.
"How about you and me go to the dining room and grab some breakfast?"
Sonni cries into his chest. "I want my mommy!!!"
Ned soothes her gently."Shhh, I know you do, baby. Your mommy would want
you to eat though. Let's go grab some breakfast." He looks over at Lois
who is crying softly. "You should come with us."
Lois shakes her head. "No..I'll be there in a little while."
He nods and walks over to her, kissing her cheek softly before leaving
with Sonni. Once Ned is gone, Lois falls into the nearest chair and
begins to cry. Lucky rushes to her side and takes her hand. He doesn't
speak; he just wordlessly grieves with her as the cops continue to
search the hotel room.
Det. Taggert comes from the bedroom and shakes his head. "Another junky
bites the dust. Damn, hate to say it, but she lasted longer than I
thought she would. Aways knew that girl would die violent like her 'soul
mate' Corinthos. I guess since he got her hooked on the drugs we can
call this his last contribution to Port Charles."
Lois lunges toward Taggert in a fit of rage. "HOW DARE YOU! My best
friend is dead, and you stand there making snide remarks about her and
Sonny? How long are you going to let your hate for Sonny cloud your
judgement! He'd dead, Taggert! She's dead! The only one alive and
kicking is you and frankly that's the real crime!"
Lucky shoots a glare at Taggert."You are the same worthless SOB you
always were. My dad and Sonny were so right about you!" He turns to
Garcia. "I want him off this case."
Taggert:"What Case, Junior? It was an OD. Accidental or suicide, take
your pick. Of course if I were going to have to go out there and tell
that little girl her mommy ain't coming back, I think I'd say it was
accidental."
Garcia interrupts. "Taggert, enough! Lucky, I respect your opinion, but
this is a police matter. I assure you we'll examine all angles."
Lois turns to Alex. "She wasn't taking those pills! She kicked that a
long time ago. Someone set her up... murdered her!"
Alex looks at Lucky with disdain then turns to one of his officers. "Run
prints on this bottle. Lucky Spencer's prints will be on it."
Lucky looks at him sheepishly. "Look, sorry okay? I came into the room,
Sonni is outside cryin', and I see her lying there stone dead with a
pill bottle on the floor. I wanted to see what pills."
Lois whispers to Lucky. "Get me outta here, okay? I can't be here with
Taggert."
Lucky nods and then looks at Alex. "Are we free to go?"
Taggert answers. "Don't leave town, Junior. If this is an investigation,
your prints make you a suspect."
Alex nods to Lucky. Lois and Lucky leave. Once outside Lois turns to
him. "She wasn't popping pills, Lucky! You believe that; dontcha?"
Lucky nods. "I've been with her a lot since she's been back in town. I
know she was clean. We were going to the Dominican Republic today so she
could divorce Jax."
Lois reads between the lines and shakes her head. "Jax may be a lot of
things, but he wouldn't hurt Brenda."
Lucky angrily punches the wall. "He kept denying her a divorce! Isn't
that hurting her?"
Lois sighs and takes his hand. "Sure, that hurt her. And knowing she was
in love with another man the entire time they were together hurt him
like hell too. It was a two-way street, Lucky. Ned will probably jump to
the same conclusion. But, I can read people, and I know that Jax would
never do this. He'll be more devastated than any of us about Bren's
death."
Lucky thinks back to the crying little girl on the telephone just a few
hours before. "No, one person will be hurt more than him. I have to call
Jax. Do you have the number?"
Lois nods and gives him the number from her purse. Lucky walks away and
dials the number on his cell phone.
"Jax here."
Lucky sighs."Jax, It's Lucky Spencer."
Jax:"I already know you were planning on taking Brender to the Dominican
Republic, and I know she decided not to go. If you're calling to
interrogate me about pressuring her, all I did was ask her to think
about Sonia. But why am I even explaining this to you?"
Lucky:"Look, Jax, I'm calling because something bad happened here."
Jax becomes frantic."WHAT? Is it my daughter? Brender?"
Lucky:"It's Brenda, man. Look, can you meet me at the Port-Charles
airport tonight? Your daughter needs you."
Becoming extremely worried, Jax bellows, "WHAT HAPPENED?"
Lucky wipes a tear from his eye. "She's dead, man. I don't want to go
into this over the phone. Lois, Ned and I are taking care of Sonni right
now, but she's wanting her mom. She needs you here. I'll tell you
everything when you arrive. Look, man, I'm sorry."
Jax drops the phone and looks at the picture of him and Brenda on his
desk. The tears fall down his cheeks as reality hits him. Without
attempting to hide his grief, he picks up the phone and makes
arrangements to head to Port Charles.
Alex answers his cell phone. "Garcia. Yes, Are you sure? I see. Thank
you." Garcia looks over at Taggert. " Spencer's were not the only prints
discovered. Matt Clark's prints were on the pill bottle too. I believe
it's time we had a talk with Mr. Clark."
Taggert nods in agreement."I'll join you for the ride to the hospital."
