GH2005.15--Finding Good in the Bad

Garcia approaches the Scorpio house and knocks. Mac answers the door and
lets him in."Hi Mac, care to be a sounding board?"
Mac smiles and shows him to the couch."Anytime, what a tragedy-- about the
Baldwins, I mean. Why would this happen to them?"
Garcia sighs."Mac, things aren't adding up. It looks like they were shot
with silenced weapons. What kind of burglar brings a gun let alone a
silencer unless they plan on using it."
Mac shakes his head."I can understand that. You know, Alex, things haven't
got any better since the old days. In fact, I'd say they're worse. Maybe the
person just didn't care if they were discovered. Clark's been a suspect in a
few home invasions. Question him yet?"
Garcia shakes his head."Not yet. He took a couple days leave of absence from
the hospital. He's a punk, but felony murder? That's a big jump."
Mac agrees."I'm with you. This isn't adding up. What exactly was taken?"
Garcia sighs."That's just it, there was money, jewelry, silver; you name it.
But all that was taken were their wedding bands, and a few valuables. The
really expensive stuff was left. "
Mac groans."No wonder you're pacing. This makes no sense."
The door opens and Emily Quartermaine and Evan Scorpio walk in looking
perplexed.
Mac smiles."Evan, Emily, you both look pretty glum. Evan, I'd like you to
meet Alexandro Garcia. Alex, this is Evan . . . my son."
The men shake hands. Evan smiles."Pleased to meet you, sir. Mac has told me
a lot about you."
Garcia smiles."I look forward to spending more time with you. I can't get
over how much you look like your old man. Hello Emily."
Emily smiles at Mac and Garcia."Hi Mac, Alex."
Mac:"So why do you two look like you've lost your best friend?"
Evan grouses."The housing department contacted us both. Seems they don't
have room for us after all."
Mac:"You're welcome to stay here."
Emily laughs."You see, it's not so bad for you."
Mac:"I take it; you aren't planning on going back to the mansion."
Emily rolls her eyes."Not with the current Mayor's Scandal going on. I'll
just have to find an apartment and a roommate."
Evan grins at her."You find a two bedroom and you'll have a roommate. That
is if you don't mind sharing with a virtual stranger who happens to be of
the opposite sex. I do however make a mean breakfast omelet and keep my
place pretty neat."
Emily laughs."You're too much. Sure, why not? Now we just need a place."
Mac offers gallantly."The apartment over the outback. Two bedrooms, nice
view, rent's cheap and the landlord is cool."
Evan and Emily exchange a glance and nod. "We'll take it."
Alex interrupts."Emily, I was going to try and find you anyway. I heard
about the scene with Matt Clark at Lucky's. Any idea where he's hanging out
these days?"
Emily shakes her head."I wish I never even knew him. No, all I know is he's
working at the hospital to appease his parole officer. His parents are well
off he probably has an apartment in town."
Evan snorts."What a jerk. I should have let those two friends of yours beat
the hell out of him a little more."
Mac grins."The sons of Laura Cassadine, they might fight like cats and dogs
but they do give a pretty good bar fight."
Emily winks at Evan jokingly."Well yon gentle knight defended bravely my
poor maiden's honor
as well. I am so safe in his care."
Evan bows."Well shucks ma'am. I do try. How about you and me mosey on into
the kitchen and raid my pa's fridge?"
Emily collapses in a fit of giggles."I start with Camelot dialog and you
move to old west talk."
Mac interjects."Bad old west talk at that."
Evan rolls his eyes."Everyone's a critic. What do you say? I happen to know
there are some left overs in the fridge that will melt in your mouth."
Emily and Evan excuse themselves. Mac turns to Garcia."Great kid isn't he?"
Garcia nods."Has your humor. How have the girls and Felicia taken to him?"
Mac:"Georgie thinks he's the coolest of the cool and Maxie and he have
chatted quite a bit. Felicia is thankful for someone to clear out the
leftovers. He fits right in. I just wish I'd been around when he was a kid.
His mother called here though and we had a talk."
Garcia cocks his eyebrow."How did that go? Give her hell?"
Mac sighs."I tried to, but she's convinced she did the right thing and that
I will be able to understand one day. She did well with him as far as I can
see. I guess all I can do is appreciate the time I have now."
Garcia nods."I have to talk to Scott Baldwin. He's beating himself up for
not having more time. This part of my job sucks."
Mac pats him on the back as he escorts him out."I'm here when you need to
discuss again."
............
Lucky and Robin wait in the Venezuelan clinic. Robin is clearly nervous, but
tries to maintain small talk."This is a pretty nice place don't you think?"
Lucky squeezes her hand."No need for chit chat. I know you're about to jump
out of your skin."
The Doctor comes out and ushers them into a room. "I have your results,
Senorita Scorpio."
Robin takes a deep breath and holds onto Lucky."Okay, What does it say?"
The doctor smiles."Congratulations, the cure worked. You are 100%, in
perfect health. One of the best recoveries I've seen to date."
Robin collapses into Lucky's arms sobbing."Oh my god. It's over. I'm okay."
Lucky feels the tears well in his eyes as he strokes her hair."You made it,
Robin. You're okay. Thank God, you made it."
Robin breaks free from Lucky and hugs her doctor."Gracias. You let me in for
the treatment and have kept me confident all this time. Mucho Gracias.
The doctor smiles as he holds her hand."No, de nada, senorita. There is no
greater moment than when I tell another person the HIV is gone and that
they're going to live, a happy normal life."
Robin begins to cry again and Lucky holds her close. She looks up at the
doctor."I can have children now?"
He nods and she let's out a scream of victory."Thank you. You have no idea
how happy I am right now."
He leaves the two of them alone and Robin sits in a chair to collect
herself. Lucky takes a seat and notices a look of sadness cross over her face.
Lucky:"He's celebrating you know. Stone, your parents, Sonny, my dad.
They're all celebrating their asses off right now."
Robin smiles at him as her tears fall down her cheeks."It came to late for
him. I love Jason, but I still miss Stone. Its not really fair if you think
about it. I'm going to have children, a great marriage and a fulfilling
medical career; I'm going to have everything I've ever dreamed of."
Lucky shakes his head."It's fair, Robin. If there is one thing both you and
I know-- life is too precious to take for granted. We've lost people before
their time and the one thing we owe them is to be thankful for the good
breaks that come along with the tragedies. You live life to its fullest and
then it's fair."
Robin shakes her head and grasps Lucky's hand."When did you become so smart?"
Lucky grins."I've always been smart. Well, a smart aleck. Let's get you on
the jet and back home. You have some people to celebrate with."
Robin rises."What about you?"
Lucky smiles."I'll be back in a few days. I have some business to take care
of first."
..................
Brenda walks into Lucky's club and smiles at Mike."Hey there."
Mike comes from behind the bar and hugs her."Hi Brenda. Where's Sonni?"
Brenda smiles."I left her with Lois for a couple days. She wanted to play
with the girls."
Alexis Hardy walks into the bar and stops as she notices Brenda. Mike turns
his gaze to Alexis and Brenda turns to face her. The women size each other
up before speaking.
Brenda:"Well, if it isn't Alexis."
Alexis walks toward her with hate dancing in her eyes."Brenda."
