Reflection

Life for Helena Cassadine was just no fun anymore. She didn't even know why she bothered half of the time since it just didn't seem to matter. Her Mikkos was gone. Her darling, her Stavros, was gone. Once again at Luke Spencer's hands. She'd held out some hope that Stavros had survived the fall through the catacombs-but she knew that if Stavros were alive, he'd find a way to contact her. She knew he'd find her even in hiding. But he hadn't. Not one word, not one hint, to give Helena hope that he was still alive and out there somewhere.

Then there was Stefan. Not that his death caused her any real grief-It was just that he, too, died at Luke's hands. Always Luke Spencer. And Helena had heard that Stefan hadn't really put up much of a fight against Luke. So once again, her second son came up short. At least Stavros had fought Luke every step of the way both times he'd been killed.

And Nikolas! What a disappointment he turned out to be. Helena had had such high hopes for him at one point in time. He was everything his father had been: handsome, brilliant, strong. And Nikolas didn't have the cruel streak that became Stavros' downfall. Unfortunately, he had compassion for all the wrong people, and an odd desire to be common when he was anything but. It was clearly his mother's genetic influence. And he had the most dreadful taste in women! Katherine Bell, Elizabeth Webber, that horrid model bid Campbell, and the mouse, Emily Quartermaine. And he even went so far as to marry that mouse! What was worse was that he hadn't even managed to conceive an heir. Prison be damned. Any common person, any farm animal for that matter, could produce offspring. But for some reason Ni kolas couldn't manage... even if the mother of his child, his heir, would be that horrible girl. His father had made the same mistake with Laura but they at least managed to produce Nikolas.

And the other mouse-Alexis. she managed to produce Cassadines without blinking an eye. Of course, her taste in fathers for her children was even more deplorable than Nikolas' taste in women. A criminal, a common thug really. People paid them to do the dirty work. They didn't go to bed with them and have children with them. And if that wasn't bad enough, Alexis married that lawyer, a man who's only skill was managing to get himself elected to public office. And the last Helena had heard, they were expecting another child.

Pathetic-They were all pathetic.

She hadn't even gotten any pleasure out of shooting Lucky. Well, not much anyway. Luke hadn't even bothered to come after her. At least not right away. Although she expected him to turn up one of these days. But he hadn't so far. So now, she was bored.

Helena sighed. "More champagne." She motioned to the waiter. "And chill it properly this time."

The champagne didn't help. But at least if passed the time and occasionally helped her forget the pathetic heap her life had turned into.
