Two Year Secret

Alexis collapsed on top of him after making love for the third time that night. “I can’t believe it’s been two years.”

“Two years and our families don’t even know,” Luke replied. Luke and Alexis started out as acquaintances, but after he revealed to her that she was Natasha, they had become close… bonding over their hatred of Helena. It was two years ago exactly that they had become lovers. Stefan had been bouncing back and forth between Laura and Katherine, leaving Luke newly divorced. And after the Tony Jones debacle, Ned wanted nothing to do with Alexis. Their relationship was over as soon as it started.

“Are you staying the night?” Alexis asked him. It was rare that he ever stayed over at her place, or she at his. They had kept their relationship a secret, knowing how their families would react. Bobbie and Lucky would probably remain indifferent. It was the Cassadine side they were most worried about. Stefan had banished Alexis for much less, and while he had always allowed her back into his life, she was sure this would be unforgivable.

“Do you want me to?” Luke asked.

“I think you know the answer to that,” was her reply.

Luke kissed her hard before moving away to grab a box from the floor on his side of the bed. He sat up and handed it to her. “Should I open it now?” she asked, smiling at the grin he had on his face.

“Of course, darlin’,” he answered. Alexis laughed at his impatience as she pulled the bow off and stuck it on his head. Digging down through the tissue paper, she thought the box was empty, but she felt the velvety softness at the bottom. She pulled out a small ring box and looked at Luke curiously.

“Open it,” he whispered.

She did as he asked, revealing a diamond ring with a smaller sapphire on each side. It was exquisite and matched her mother’s jewelry. All of Kristin’s jewelry exhibited the beautiful blue stone. It had quickly become Alexis’ favorite stone, as well. “Luke?” she began nervously.

“The last time I went to Greece, I snuck onto the compound. I was almost seen by one of Helena’s guards, but I slipped into a secret passageway… by accident really. It led me to a small room. It didn’t look like anyone had been in it for nearly twenty years. In fact, I don’t think anyone had ever been in that room except your father. The walls were covered with posters of your mother from her different operas. Unfortunately, they are beyond repair. They looked as though they would disintegrate if I even touched them.”

Luke smiled as he watched her expression during his story. “There were numerous photographs. I sent them to someone I trust to repair them for you. But this ring… I found this little beauty stowed away in a secret drawer in the desk. It was an engagement ring from your father to your mother. He was planning to ask her to marry him, but Helena wouldn’t give him an out. I decided to use this ring to ask you to marry me.”

Alexis sat before him, speechless. “If you want to say ‘no’, it’s okay. I would understand if you want to keep things the way they are.”

“If I decline your proposal can I still have the ring?”

Luke’s expression fell, but answered a simple “Yes” as tears began to fill his eyes.

“Oh, good.” She pulled the ring out of the box and examined it closely. Alexis handed the ring to Luke, and asked, “Will you put this on me?” She held out her left hand.

Luke’s brow furrowed. “Does this mean… that you want to… marry me?”

Alexis grinned and nodded her head vigorously. Luke slipped the ring into place before pushing Alexis back down onto the mattress. She gasped when his lips hit that sensitive spot on her neck. She indulged him a little further before asking. “Do you want your present now?”

Luke sprung up to a sitting position and quietly awaited his gift. Alexis handed him an envelope which Luke thought very odd, but he opened his gift. He pulled out a sheet of paper and unfolded it, as she watched with baited breath. His mouth dropped open, and his eyes bulged out.

“Natasha,” he whispered.

“Congratulations, Daddy.”

He blinked several times before standing to get a glass of water. He returned to her side. “You’re… preg… pregnant.”

“Yes, I know.”

“We’re going to have a baby.”

“Uh-huh.”

“I’m going to be a dad again.”

“Are you happy?” she asked unsure of how to judge his response.

“Ecstatic,” he replied.

Alexis pulled him into a hug and held him for several minutes. “You do know we’re going to have to tell our families.”

“How do we do that?”

“I have no clue. Stefan will tell me how disappointed he is in me. Nikolas will freak out. Lucky will think you’re crazy for getting involved with a Cassadine. And Bobbie still hates me from before she was even divorced from my brother.”

“Stefan will more than likely try to kill me. I can hear it now. He will probably think this is to get back at him for marrying my sister.”

“This poor baby,” Alexis exclaimed. “As if being a Cassadine isn’t bad enough… her father is the one person the Cassadine’s hate most in this world.”

“Tash…”

“She’ll never be free from Helena.”

“Tash…”

“She’ll grow up being a target for Helena’s revenge.”

“Tash…”

“This is a really bad idea.”

“Natasha!” She stopped rambling and looked up at him. “Everything will fine. Helena will not come after you or our child.”

“But…” Alexis was cut off by Luke.

“Helena can’t hurt either of you.”

What Luke was saying hit Alexis like a ton of bricks. Helena was gone from this earth. She had finally been sentenced to spend eternity in hell. As much as she wanted to believe it, Helena was inhuman, and, therefore, could never die. She would haunt Alexis from the grave, but at least now, Luke would be by her side.

“Okay, so how do we tell them?”

“We could let them find out on their own,” Luke suggested.

“We could always vacation on the other side of the world and tell them in a postcard.”

“Why don’t we figure this out in the morning? I want to ravage you some more.”

“Hmm… sounds like a plan.”

They made love once more that night before falling asleep wrapped up in each other. Around eight o’clock the next morning, the telephone rang waking Luke from his slumber. He reached over and yanked it up to his ear.

“What do you want? I’m trying to sleep!”

“Spencer!?” the voice sounded through the receiver, a mixture of shock and anger.

Luke’s eyes widened, realizing their secret was no more. “Honey… it’s for you,” he said loud enough for Stefan to hear.

That was fun, but the hardest part, as always for me, was coming up with a name.
